“Premarital” is an adult comedy about a Christian family, but it is neither a faith-based movie nor a skewering of religion. It’s an attempt to honestly explore (and laugh at) all of the wild permutations of life that result from different belief systems — acknowledging the ugly and the beautiful alike.
Movies with religious subject matter tend to have a fairly blunt point of view. Either you get faith-based movies in which the filmmakers are already convinced they have all the answers, or you get angsty films from ex-religious people with equally strong messaging in the opposite direction. In both cases, the films are preaching to the choir. With “Premarital”, we’re attempting to do something more nuanced, allowing space for a conversation to take place between these opposing views.
